What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding
Let me start off by saying, this book is a must read for female travelers. It is sexy, it is hilarious, and it's a real growing up story. Kristin chronicles her life and travels over a 10 year period. Throughout that time she travels solo, she falls in love, she longs for the thrill of her next adventure and she evolves as a human being. I will never forget when I finished this book while running on the treadmill, I was in mourning. I had to truly feel the ending of the book before I could move on to my next book.
For me, this book was truly about a woman who went against the stereotypical conventions of what women should do in their 20s and 30s (i.e., get married and start a family) and instead opted for a life of expanding one's horizons and surrendering to the mystery and love that is travel.
I highly this recommend this book. You will walk away from it dreaming of trips to Iceland and Argentina, but importantly, as a traveler, you will truly be able to understand what she is saying about her love of travel.
“When you travel, you're forced to have new thoughts. "Is this alley safe?" "Is this the right bus?" "Was this meat ever a house pet?" It doesn't even matter what the new thoughts are, it feels so good to just have some variety. And it's a reboot for your brain. I can feel the neurons making new connections again with new problems to solve, clawing their way back to their nimbler, younger days.”
