Visiting the Washington National Cathedral

Since 2010, we have visited Washington D.C. on a yearly basis. While we normally frequent the monuments and museums, on a recent trip we found our way out to the Washington National Cathedral.

The Washington National Cathedral is a Neo-Gothic design Cathedral and the sixth-largest cathedral in the world! It is located in the northwest area of Washington D.C., and not too difficult to access by metro or on foot.

All historical points aside, it is an incredibly gorgeous and breathtaking Cathedral. From the architectural beauty to the glow of the stained glass that fills the Cathedral during the day.

There are a few costs associated with the Cathedral. As of 2016, it is $11 for adults, Youth (5-17 years) are $7, and children (under 5) are free. There are also discounts for students, military, and veterans.

Tours are offered every day, and importantly, tours are FREE on Sundays.

There are many works of art to enjoy at the National Cathedral, however, the most familiar and the most expensive stained glass window in the world, is the Space Window, which honors man's landing on the moon.

In this very stained glass window, there is a fragment of lunar rock at the center, which was donated by an Apollo 11 astronaut.

Have you visited any beautiful Cathedrals?

  2. I travel to DC quite frequently as well, but I have yet to go to the National Cathedral. The lighting looks spectacular and I will make sure to visit it next time, I am in the capitol.
